About the Forensic Services Laboratory

The Forensic Osteology Laboratory (FOL) at Laurentian University (in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) was established in 1996 by Dr. Scott I. Fairgrieve, Ph.D. Dr. Fairgrieve saw the need for a laboratory in Ontario that was dedicated to the study of human and animal remains found in forensic contexts. Furthermore, it was recognized that the resources of this laboratory must be accessible to police services and coroners on a 24-hour basis.

The FOL is located on the campus of Laurentian University in the Department of Forensic Science. Dr. Fairgrieve and this lab are affiliated with the Northern Regional Forensic Pathology Unit located at the Laurentian Site of the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Dr. Martin Queen, Forensic Pathologist adn Adjunct Professor of Forensic Science in the Department of Forensic Science is in charge of Northern Regional Forensic Pathology Unit.
